Police are probing a murder of an unidentified man who was found yesterday tied to one of Trinmar’s offshore platforms in the Gulf of Paria.
Initial reports said the body appeared to be that of a Caucasian man, which was seen floating near platform 11 in Main Field. There were concrete blocks tied to the victim’s feet.
According to a release from Petrotrin, an employee was aboard the vessel Swift in Trinmar’s Main Field when around 11.30 am he saw the body floating in the water.
An offshore worker told the Guardian last night that the body was first spotted by a vessel belonging to AR Singh Contractors Ltd, which transports workers to and from platforms.
He said the victim was floating face down with both feet bound together but hands apart. It appeared that the body was hooked to the platform as it was floating in the same location. He said the victim looked light skinned and they believed his body was not in the water for very long as it was not bloated. He said it was unlikely that it was an offshore employee as the victim wore only a pair of short pants. Petrotrin’s Security Department was notified and the Coast Guard were called in.
