Police officers are yet to make contact with the husband and wife owners of the day care in Diego Martin where three-month-old baby Anastacia Phillip allegedly died on Wednesday.
The T&T Guardian understands that while a team of officers from the West End Police Station went to the day care yesterday, they met a locked gate and a note stuck to the gate bearing a telephone contact number. However, calls to the number went unanswered.
Speaking with the T&T Guardian yesterday, the child’s mother, Tiffany Phillip, said she too tried to contact the owners of the day care but all her calls went unanswered.
“I have not heard from them since. They were keeping in contact with my mother but now that the story is out in the open they have stopped calling. Their place is (allegedly) locked up tight. They are nowhere to be found,” Phillip said.
An autopsy conducted on the child yesterday revealed she died as a result of position asphyxia or suffocated. The autopsy was done by senior pathologist Dr Valery Alexandrov at the Forensic Science Centre, St James.
On Wednesday at about 9.30 am, Phillip dropped off her baby at the day care. At about 2 pm, however, Phillip received a call saying her baby was not breathing and she should leave her work immediately and make her way to the day care.
However, when Phillip got there baby Anastacia was already in the ambulance and said to be unresponsive. She was pronounced dead at the St James Infirmary.
Investigations are continuing.
