A 31-year-old security guard, who admitted to stealing a bag of money from her employer, has been sentenced to nine months in prison.

Crystal Mc Mayo, of Malik, Barataria, was sentenced by Senior Magistrate Joanne Connor after pleading guilty to the larceny charge on her first court appearance in the Chaguanas Magistrates Court yesterday.

Mc Mayo was among a group of security officers from SWAT Security, who received the bag of money from Bhagwansingh’s Hardware in Chaguanas during their routine money collection and transport duties on November 3.

The stores’ sales supervisor contacted police one week later after he realised that the bag containing $16,522 in cash and $15,048 in cheques, had not been deposited at RBC’s Independence Square branch.

An internal investigation was conducted by the security company and Mc Mayo confessed to stealing the bag to her superiors.

Police raided her home where they seized $1,500 in cash and two Samsung S7 Edge cellphones, which Mc Mayo admitted she bought with stolen cash. Police did not recover any of the stolen cheques. Mc Mayo was charged by PC Andile Mohammed of the Chaguanas CID.
