Twenty-two hours after a Water Taxi crew and its passengers made the chilling discovery of a corpse floating in the Gulf of Paria, the Coast Guard were finally able to bring the bound and gagged body ashore.
The HSC Trini Flash was on its way to the San Fernando terminal when around 4 pm on Friday the crew made the discovery at the Port of Pointe-a-Pierre.
T&T Coast Guard public relations officer Lt Sherron Manswell said after the Water Taxi crew alerted them to the body, both air and sea vessels were dispatched; however, the body was not found. Around 10.14 am yesterday, Petrotrin officials found the body of a man in Trinmar Brighton Marine Fields, off La Brea. Around 2.05 pm, the Coast Guard retrieved the body several miles off the Trinmar Jetty in Point Fortin, and it was handed over to Sgt Darryl Corey of the Region III Homicide Bureau.
The partially decomposed body was clad in a pair of brown boxer shorts with a cloth wrapped around the head, held together by duct tape. His hands and feet were tied behind his back.
Investigators believe the man was murdered. Up to late yesterday, police were still trying to identify the body.
