Former government minister Winston “Gypsy” Peters yesterday urged supporters of the Independent Liberal Party (ILP) to vote out Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar and her cabal tomorrow when they cast their votes.
Peters brought the curtain down with his rendition of Kamla at the ILP’s Grand Election Rally at Chrissie Terrace Recreation Ground, Enterprise.
He walked hand-in-hand on stage with ILP political leader Jack Warner and made a ten-minute appearance.
Before his performance, Peters told the small group of party supporters, “Fate has a way of doing things that human beings can hardly ever imagine.
“Nobody could have told me in 2007, when Jack Warner and I walked the length and breadth of Trinidad and Tobago with Ramesh Lawrence Maharaj to put Kamla in power, and that it would take Jack Warner and I to go through the length and breadth of T&T to take Kamla Persad out of power.”
He asked for God’s forgiveness for foisting Persad-Bissessar on the people of the country but said tomorrow “we must go to the polls and ensure that we vote Kamla Persad-Bissessar and her cabal out.”
In his feature address, 74-year-old Warner said it was a long, grilling campaign for the ILP. He claimed Persad-Bissessar exacted as much as she could from the treasury and the Government because she stayed three months overtime.
He said: “Her real name in school was Pushwattie but she didn’t like that name so she asked them to call her Kamla, and that’s why she is Kamla today but whatever her name is, on Monday, she will be history.”
He said Chaguanas East needed representation and promised to elevate the image of Enterprise with a swimming pool, library and proper health centre. He also promised three scholarships for five years to be paid from his salary “which I will not take for five years.”
He said, “The time for change is now and if you miss the boat now, your children will pay a dear price.”
