A Gasparillo man accused of having sexual intercourse with his 14-year-old daughter was granted $50,000 bail and warned to stay away from the child.
The 56-year-old man, who receives a social welfare grant because of a medical condition, appeared before Senior Magistrate Nanette Forde-John in the San Fernando First Court.
He was arrested after the child, accompanied by an adult, made a report at the Gasparillo Police Station on last week.
The matter was then referred to the Child Protection Unit (South) and investigations were carried out. PC Sieupersad subsequently charged the man was incest.
Before granting bail, the magistrate warned the father to have absolutely no contect with the child via phone or social media. She also ordered him not to enter the child’s home and to stay 500 meters away from her.
In addition to the $50,000 bail, which had to be approved by a clerk of the peace, the magistrate granted a cash bail alternative of $35,000. The matter was adjourned to September 23.
