A number of churches have come together to launch the Christian Historical Society.

President of the society, Apostle Terrence Honore, said the passion and purpose of the society are to record and preserve the significant contribution churches have made to T&T over the years.

Attending the launch at the San Fernando Hill were Presbyterian ministers Rev Winston Gopaul and Rev Ken Kaloo, Rev Ken Ragoonath of the Hospital Christian Fellowship, Carl Thompson of the Salvation Army, Curwin Callender representing the London Baptist Church and the Merikins, Grace Achoy, director of Heritage Library at Nalis, and Dr Debbie Mc Colin, vice president of the society and a UWI lecturer.

Honore said over the years the churches have helped to shape society not only spiritually, but in the sphere of health, education and social matters.

Yet, he said, a lot of what has been done has not been recorded for future generations.

“From the early beginnings from the Capuchin Monks to the more recent development of modern type structure and more interactive type measures by tele-evangelists and using other contemporary methods of communications, the church has continued to make a significant contribution. This has to be heralded, noted, recorded and recognised.

“It is high time that the church stands up and declares who they are, what they have done and how well they have contributed to this nation,” Honore said.
