New US Ambassador to Port-of-Spain John L Estrada says citizens of T&T should unite, lobby the Government for stronger laws and work with the law enforcement agencies to stop gun violence in this country.
Ambassador Estrada was responding to a question from a student during the ceremony yesterday at the Office of the President, St Ann’s, at which he presented his credentials.
Estrada, who was born in T&T, was sworn-in as ambassador on March 17.
Students from select schools across the country, including Tobago, were among the specially invited guest for the ceremony.
Estrada said citizens and communities must unite and lobby the Government to ensure that they put the necessary laws in place to reduce gun violence.
Estrada was accompanied by his wife, Dr Elizabeth Anne Cote Estrada.
President Anthony Carmona jokingly referred to Estrada as a prodigal son on his arrival, saying that he was a good example of what is possible with hard work and determination.
