Staff of Guardian Media Ltd (GML) were thrown into mourning late yesterday following the death of Vibe CT105.1FM radio personality Derek Selman, better known as CG.
He died at the Mount Hope Medical Sciences Complex late yesterday after battling with effects of a kidney disease.
GML’s general manager (Radio Division), Steve Dipnarine, said although CG had been ailing for sometime he was still actively working with the station whenever his health permitted.
“Over the years we had made several appeals for blood for CG but his illness deteriorated to the extent he suffered a mild stroke on Sunday and had to be hospitalised,” he added.
Dipnarine said CG called him from hospital on Monday. He said they spoke for about ten minutes but CG sounded extremely weak.
“I told him we are praying for his full recovery. He was very anxious to return to the station. He asked me to keep his spot when he returns and I gave him the full assurance that his spot will be available to him when he returns,” Dipnarine said.
He said CG, a former Coast Guard officer and family man, “went through his illness like a true soldier and fought a good battle. A lesser person would have succumbed years ago.”
The management and staff of GML have also sent out condolences to the bereaved family. Vibe CT105.1FM paid tribute CG last night as scores of listeners and fans also conveyed sympathy.
