Twenty-six-year-old Kelly Charles wished for peace and prosperity as she was the first to deliver a baby for the new year at the Mt Hope Women’s Hospital.

The mother of two delivered her second child, baby Khaleah, at 12.28 am, yesterday.

Charles, a loans officer, who had a natural delivery, said she would not be having another child any time soon.

She said she was treated fairly at the hospital and did not have any complaints.

Charles said she came to the hospital before 8 o’clock on Thursday night and did not experience any problems during delivery.

She said her husband was “excited” over the birth.

When questioned on the hope she has for the future of her children, Charles said, “Improvement in all areas, for love and peace.”

Shanwaitie Sidnauth, 22, was the second to deliver a baby at 2.12 am, while Candice Alexis, 27, delivered a girl at 2.26 am.

During the visit, several doctors were on the ward taking care of the other patients and asking them questions about their health.

Health Minister Terrence Deyalsingh and his wife, Sherma, visited the women and greeted them with baby hampers.

He was accompanied by other members of staff from the hospital and the ministry.
