Housing Minister and candidate for Oropouche East Dr Roodal Moonilal is appealing to the Police Service and acting Police Commissioner Stephen Williams not to participate in political mischief during the election season.

Moonilal was speaking during the UNC’s Monday Night Forum held at the ASJA Girls’ College, Caroni Savannah Road, Charlieville.

Addressing a crowd of party supporters, Moonilal, in an apparent allusion to ILP political leader Jack Warner, said, “You see the fella from here...the one who gone mad now...every week he does swear to affidavit. Every Monday morning he does swear and every Friday evening a judge does say he lying. Every week he is coming with stories and scandals and lies. Tonight I want to call on the Police Service and the commissioner...I want to ensure that they do not allow themselves to participate in political mischief.

“Because it cannot be that the judge at the Supreme Court, not on one occasion [but] on two occasions said that he was lying and the police receiving from him every week these lies and want to investigate...we’ll keep an eye on that,” Moonilal added.

Minister of the Environment and UNC candidate for Chaguanas West Ganga Singh, who was also on the platform, vowed to take the seat from ILP political leader Jack Warner.

Addressing Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar, he said, “I want to give you the assurance that come September 8, Chaguanas West will be within the embrace of the UNC.”

Singh also waded into Opposition Leader Dr Keith Rowley, reiterating the UNC slogan that Rowley was an angry man.

He said this country would face a dismal future if Rowley came to power.

“You know the kind of hate and aggression that will be unleashed on this country if Rowley is elected? He had four incarnations as a minister and he achieved nothing,” Singh said.

With regard to water, he said the PNM had failed there, as well, to provide for the people.

“In Keith Rowley’s constituency we did 36 water projects at a cost of $46 million,” Singh added.

Sport Minister and UNC candidate for Toco/Sangre Grande Brent Sancho, who also spoke, announced some of his plans, naming them the five “S’s” which include social inclusion, sports, skills training, sustainable agriculture and sustainable tourism.

Many athletes had emerged from the north coast community, Sancho said, and there were plans to build a state-of-the-art football stadium in Sangre Grande with construction expected to begin at the end of this month.
