A 36-year-old police officer is expected to appear before a Port-of-Spain magistrate next week after striking his alleged former “lover” at a bar this past week.
A Piarco man told police he was visiting a bar known to be frequented by men only when he was allegedly assaulted.
The 32-year-old victim said the police officer who is assigned to a station in North Eastern Division saw him while he was buying drinks and began to insult him, calling him a “fling.”
The victim said he made some remarks about visiting a doctor because of an illness after which the officer began to choke and physically assault him.
The victim made a report to the police but was told that he “could not because his attacker was a police officer and they could not take details of the report and could not give him a receipt.”
However, the report was eventually taken by the officer on duty.
A report of the incident was also made to the Police Complaints Authority. Both the accused and the complainant will appear in court on August 11.
