A six-year-old Tobago school girl is clinging to life after a tree fell on her yesterday morning. Up late yesterday, Zikiha Lorde was said to be in a critical condition at hospital.
According to reports, around 8 am yesterday Lorde was standing outside her Black Rock home getting ready to go to school when a branch from a nearby fell on her. A group of men were reportedly cutting the tree in front of her home at the time.
Relatives were alerted by little Zikiha’s screams and ran to her aid. They had to remove the child from under the tree, which had pinned her down before they took her to the Scarborough General Hospital where she was warded up to last night.
Sources said Lorde suffered multiple fractures about her body and severe head injuries, which has caused bleeding in her brain. She was scheduled to be airlifted to Trinidad for further treatment.
Lorde is a student of the Black Rock Government Primary School.
Lorde’s family has gone through a previous tragedy. Her father was shot and killed in Lambeau by unknown assailants in October 2016. Investigations are ongoing.
