The acting Police Commissioner has mandated an urgent probe into Wednesday’s shooting incident between two police officers at Grand Bazaar following which the necessary disciplinary action will be taken, says National Security Minister Edmund Dillon.

Replying to Opposition questions on the shoot-out incident which shocked mall shoppers, Dillon told MPs in Parliament yesterday. I’ve had discussions with the acting CoP who’s dealing with this matter.”

“The CoP has launched a probe with an entire team led by Supt David and supported by the T&T Police Service’s Professional Standards Bureau, with oversight by ACP Anthony Bucchan.”

“The CoP’s given a clear mandate that this matter be investigated urgently,” he stressed.

Dillon said the situation which occurred won’t be condoned by the TTPS. He said the investigating team is on the assignment, “as we speak.”

In the incident, UNC MP Ganga Singh noted that given the proximity of the two police combatants to each other, although 28 bullets were reported as being fired, only three found their mark.

On another issue, Education Minster Anthony Garcia said SEA pupils, who experienced significant trauma close to SEA exams, get an opportunity to do a make-up test a month after the exam.

He was replying to queries based on recent reports that a 12- year-old pupil was allegedly molested a few days before he was scheduled to do the SEA exam.

Garcia also said $1.79 million is owed to staff administering the Education Ministry’s Continuation Classes programme.

In some cases, money was owed from 2017 as well as this year. Arrangements are being made with the Finance Ministry for payments soonest.

Garcia said laptops being issued to schools will have locking mechanisms and will also be stored in school computer labs and secure rooms.
