An investigation has been launched into the death of a mother and baby from East Trinidad.
The mother and unborn child were taken to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex, Mt Hope, in distress but neither could be saved by doctors.
The T&T Guardian understands that the pregnant woman was found frothing from the mouth at her home by her Jamaican husband yesterday.
The woman subsequently was rushed to the EWMSC but was pronounced dead on arrival.
An emergency C-section was done in a bid to save the baby, but by the time doctors delivered the child it was dead.
It is alleged that the woman was the patient of a private doctor.
Contacted yesterday, Dr Andy Bhagwandass, chairman of the North West Regional Health Authority (NWRHA), confirmed the deaths.
He, however, could not confirm the name of the woman.
Bhagwandass referred the T&T Guardian to Chief of Staff at the Women’s Hospital, Dr Karen Sohan, but Sohan could not be reached for comment as she did not answer her phone.
