Three die in weekend accidents

Three people, two motorcyclists and a pedestrian have died in three spearate accidents which took place between Saturday afternoon and Sunday night.

In the most recent accident Clarence Smythe of Lendore Village, Enterprise, Chaguanas died almost instantaneously when he slammed into a silver Nissan Almera Sunday night. 

According to police, Smythe was riding his Honda motorcycle along the Southern Main Road, Chaguanas near the Ministry of Food Production when he slammed into the back of the Nissan driven by Ricardo Lucian who had turned onto the compound. 

The accident happened around 8.30 pm police said. Police reports stated that Smythe was thrown off his motorcycle, flung several feet in the air before being knocked down by an on coming pickup. Corporal Ramdial of the Freeport police station is conducting enquires.

In the second road death Wayne “Milo” Mc Knight, 60, died while attempting to cross the Western Main Road, Cocorite. 

Police said Mc Knight, a homeless man who usually danced in the roadway, was struck by an oncoming car near Econo Car Rentals, Cocorite around 10.30 pm on Saturday. Speaking with the media at the Forensic Science Centre, St James yesterday McKnight’s mother, Inez said her son was the father of 10 and was a very nice child who was helpful to everyone. She said that her son was like “saltfish” who tried to make everyone around him happy.

In the last incident Falco Lawrence, a 25-year-old mechanic was killed when he crashed head on with an oncoming car Saturday afternoon. Police said Lawrence was riding his motorcycle along Coalmine Road, Sangre Grande when he swerved to avoid a pothole and slammed into a white AD wagon. 

Speaking with the media yesterday relatives of Lawrence said they used to warn him about the way he used to ride his bike. The men added that Lawrence was also warned by police in the area to slow down on his motorbike and begged to be more careful on the roadway. WPC Glenda Goora of the Sangre Grande Police Station is continuing investigations.
