The top cop showed photographs of his nephew's injury to members of the media from his phone following a special media briefing held to speak of a threat to disrupt Carnival 2018.
According to reports, Williams, who was off-duty, was sitting in his parked car along Maturita Trace on Friday night, waiting for a friend when 19-year-old Kyle Coker approached him.
Coker was armed. Coker reportedly demanded Williams hand over his wallet and Williams obliged.
However, Coker is said to have demanded more money from Williams and the officer drew his service pistol. Shots were fired. Both men were shot. Coker died on the spot.
Up to late yesterday, Williams was said to be in a stable condition at hospital.
