The teenager charged with murdering police constable Montgomery Guy was yesterday ordered to be taken to the Port-of-Spain General Hospital immediately after his court appearance as his gastroenteritis had worsened.
Abdias Julien, 19, spent nine days in police custody his attorney Fareed Ali told Chief Magistrate Marcia Ayers-Caesar, and on Thursday he was taken to the Port-of-Spain General Hospital where he was treated and discharged.
Ali said his client was placed on IV fluids and given a prescription which had not been filled out. Ali said since then his client began to feel worse and he needed to receive his medication. He said that his client was not given the prescribed medication, neither was any family member contacted to secure the medication.
Ayers-Caesar ordered the accused to be sent to hospital and directed that the prisoner’s father, Allister Wellington, be allowed to collect any prescribed medication to be taken by his son.
Julien, of Lutchman Drive, Dibe Road, Long Circular, is charged with killing Guy as well as being in possession of a gun and 14 rounds of ammunition.
Guy, 49, of Bon Air Gardens, Arouca, was shot once in the head as he drove along Agra Street, St James, on October 4. The gun charges are related to an incident which took place on October 21, at Lower Duncan Street, Port-of-Spain. Julien will re-appear in court on November 23.
Less than 15 minutes after he appeared in court, Julien’s 20-year-old girlfriend Khadija Robertson appeared before Magistrate Adrian Darmanie charged with possession of a gun and ammunition.
Robertson, who was represented by Gerald Ramdeen, was granted $100,000 bail and ordered to re-appear in court next Tuesday.
Following the court appearance, Ramdeen told the media that it was peculiar that his client was charged with possession of a gun and ammunition based on a photograph and that the actual illegal items were not in the possession of the police.
He said the charge was tantamount to an abuse of police powers and, on the adjourned date, a state attorney was expected to inform the magistrate as to why the charges were laid without any physical evidence.
Robertson, of Texeira Street, Diego Martin, is alleged to have been in possession of the gun and ammunition on October 30. The mother of two along with Julien was arrested in relation to Guy’s death, released and re-arrested days later.
