A young couple is assisting police with their investigations after a foetus was found near the Caroni Bird Sanctuary yesterday afternoon.

According to police, the man and woman were reporting an unrelated incident to officers when the police made note of certain things the man was saying.

Officers then went about 100 feet from the Caroni Bird Sanctuary where they found the foetus. The couple, from Carapichaima, were arrested and are assisting police. The foetus will be taken to the Forensic Science Centre today to determine the cause of death.

In September last year, two stillborn babies, a boy and a girl, were found in a cardboard box at the Forres Park Landfill Site in Claxton Bay after a worker noticed a vulture pecking at the deceased children.

The discovery came after a full term baby girl was found in a garbage bag in the Beetham landfill in Port- of- Spain one month prior.

Forensic pathologist Valery Alexandrov concluded the baby was mature, had no abnormalities and the umbilical cord was cut, ruling the death a homicide. Pathologist Dr Hughvon Des Vignes ruled that the twins were still born and their deaths deemed natural. To date the parents have not been identified in any of the two cases.

In December last year, Dr Ronald Budhooram was charged with the unlawful killing of newborn baby boy Khmeron Jorai , six months after the child’s body was found in a freezer at his office in San Fernando. Baby Khmeron died on July 1 but his body was discovered in the freezer at Budhooram’s office in Cocoyea Village on July 10.
