Caribbean Airlines (CAL) yesterday cancelled and rescheduled several of its flights to the John F Kennedy (JFK) Airport in New York due to the winter storm that is raging in the United States, which has resulted in strong winds, temperatures below freezing and severe snow.
On CAL’s website on Thursday, it warned passengers travelling yesterday to and from JFK that seven of its flights had been affected by the fierce weather, as it gave new departure times.
Flight BW 550, which was scheduled for January 4, was cancelled and renumbered BW 3550.
This flight departed at 7 am yesterday from Piarco International to JFK.
Flights BW 527 carded for January 5 was listed to depart at 1.20 pm instead from JFK to Cheddi Jagan International in Guyana. This flight was expected to land at Piarco last night at 9.10.
BW 011 scheduled for take-off on January 4 was also cancelled and operated as a delayed service.
Flight BW 3011 departed at 6.30 am yesterday from Jamaica to JFK.
CAL advised its passengers that flight BW 010 for yesterday was scheduled to depart at 12.10 pm from JFK.
Passengers of flight BW 010 which was destined for JFK were informed they would leave at 12.10 pm to Jamaica instead, while BW 520 also departed at 7.30 am from Piarco and BW 521 left JFK to arrive at Piarco at 1.50 pm yesterday.
CAL advised its affected passengers travelling to and from JFK during the period January 4 to 6 that they will be permitted to change or cancel their reservations without penalty under conditions.
Yesterday, CAL’s corporate communications manager Dionne Ligoure said flights have been running “delayed” because of the weather condition in the US.
She said CAL was dependent on JFK’s operations.
