Emotions ran high yesterday during the funeral of murder victim, Arisa Vana David, 25, who was found strangled on Tuesday.

David was said to be “too forgiving” - a trait that “perhaps would have led to her demise.”

Close friends and family were seen so overwhelmed with grief that they were not strong enough to bodily hold up themselves.

One friend, fondly called Tiny, cried uncontrollably as she recalled David telling her that she was fed up of the abuse meted out to her.

“Vana said she fed up…she real fed up and told my husband that this new year she will do things differently…to make herself happy and free,” Tiny said. She broke down in tears and had to be taken away from the microphone.

Another friend screamed: “Vana, Vana, this is not you Vana…Why you gone so Vana?” as she looked at David’s body in the coffin.

The funeral service was officiated by Pastor Nello Mulchansingh who became very emotional at times as he spoke of his relationship with David and of Jesus Christ. He told the mourners that there are consequences to face with choices.

In the eulogy, it was disclosed that David had several “turbulent relationships,” yet she had the resilience to carry on living her life.

She was described as a well loved individual who possessed beautiful traits “both on the inside and outside…in hard times she would fall into despair but she always bounced back up.”

David’s elder of two children— Ranessa, seven, cried uncontrollable for her mother and had to be consoled by relatives. Her little sister, Irisa, who is just two years old, were seen playing and laughing, as she is too small to understand that her mother will no longer be around to take care of her.

David’s two children witnessed a man they knew choking their mother to death.

David was said to be a victim of domestic abuse for the past seven years.

Up to late yesterday, a 36-year-old suspect remained in police custody as officers were said to be awaiting further instructions.

Burial took place at the St Mary’s Junction cemetery.
