Police are investigating the murder of a homeless man, who was beaten by limers outside a Marabella bar early yesterday. According to reports, Marlon Davis, 57, of no fixed place of abode, was on the pavement near Foxy’s Bar along the Southern Main Road when around 2.30 am, he got into an argument with two men who were liming nearby.
Eyewitnesses said men began beating the man with a piece of wood and smashed a bottle against him. Marabella police along with an ambulance responded and although the victim was able to speak to paramedics, he died before reaching the San Fernando General Hospital. Davis is believed of have suffered shock from bleeding profusely from cuts to his chest and a large gash on his back. Police held one of the suspects, who told them he had just “given him (Davis) a little shake up.”
The body was taken to the San Fernando mortuary and is expected to be transferred to the Forensic Science Centre today for an autopsy. PC Gopaul of the Region Three Homicide Bureau is continuing investigations. And in a separate incident, Maloney police are continuing investigations into the shooting death of Rondon King.
Police said around 10 pm on Saturday, King, 37, from Maloney Gardens was shot dead in his own neighbourhood. Police reports state that his neighbours heard loud explosions and contacted the police station. Officers responded and found King lying on the ground in a pool of blood near Building 15. He had died on the scene. King lived at apartment 43 north, Building One.
Superintendent Daniel, Inspector Ramnath, Sgt Matthew Harewood and other officers were also on the scene. King was not known by the police to be involved in criminal activities. The police are yet to ascertain a motive for the shooting, and investigations continue. The murder toll now stands at 355 for the year.
