A notorious gang leader from Central Trinidad, who police say was a major player in the violence that rocked Enterprise, Chaguanas, earlier this year, was arrested yesterday while hiding out in a hotel.

His arrest came hours after police held seven members of his family, ages 19 to 67, at a house in Walters Lane, Enterprise, where they recovered an extended magazine with 23 rounds of 9 mm ammunition.

Police officers, including the Central Division Task Force, together with members of the T&T regiment and air guard, also searched an open area near the house. There they found 50 rounds of 9mm ammunition, 14 rounds of 12 gauge ammunition, five .40 calibre ammunition, and one extended magazine.

According to police, the suspect was from the Unruly Gang of Enterprise and is known to bring in weapons to supply gang members. They believe these weapons were used in several of the murders in Enterprise.

They also suspect that he got word that there was a warrant out for his arrest and decided to hide. However, police learned of his location and searched the hotel around 2 am and found him in a room.

Earlier on, the officers went to the Lamont Street, Enterprise, home of a 37-year-old businessman, whom they also know as a drug dealer. There they found 125 grammes of marijuana and 219 grammes of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking and $95,320 cash. The money was handed over to the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) for further investigation. Police also got 795 grammes of marijuana in an open area on Lamont Street. The suspect and four other family members, including two boys, ages 13 and 17, and a 67-year-old woman were arrested.

A 29-year-old man of Lamont Street, Enterprise, and a 31-year-old man of Crown Trace, Enterprise, were arrested pending verification of their immigration status.

Eight other people between the ages of 23 and 61 were held on enquiries, possession of marijuana, cocaine and outstanding warrants.
