Residents of Orchid Gardens, Pleasantville, hid in their homes on Saturday night as a gunman opened fire inside a white Toyota Corolla, killing Robert Carter, a known drug dealer from Arima.
Police believe the shots were fired at close range.
Carter, 45, of Calvary Hill, Arima, died from bullet wounds to the head.
Investigators said he was known to the police and had a number of drug-related charges before the court. A resident who requested anonymity said more than ten gunshots were fired.
"We think the man who killed him could have been sitting in the car with him as the front passenger side remained open," a source said. For more than half an hour, nobody ventured out of their homes even though police arrived on the scene within minutes.
Insp Persad and Cpl Bridgemohan of Homicide Division are continuing investigations. An autopsy is expected to be done on the body today.
Teen raped, robbed
A 17-year-old girl who ran away from her Laventille home was raped and robbed by five men in an abandoned house in south Trinidad.
On Thursday, the girl, who ran away from home, reported to the Police Service's Child Protection Unit that two men took her to an abandoned house and raped her. Three gunmen then stormed the premises and also raped the teenager. They robbed the teenager of $140, and a cellphone.
One of the gunmen eventually gave her $40 of her own money to travel home. The men escaped.
The matter is being investigated by the Child Protection Unit. The teenager is now staying with relatives.
