Route Five Maxi Taxi drivers plying the San Fernando to Siparia route have increased their fares by $1 across the board.
Executive member of the association Ashook Sirju said the decision was taken following the 15 per cent increase in super unleaded gas and diesel fuel. In an interview, Sirju said the fee between Siparia and San Fernando has moved from $7 to $8.
All short drops between Siparia and Penal are now $5. “We used to charge $7 from Siparia to Palmiste but it is now $8. All immediate stops will be $1 more,” Sirju said. He added Siparia to Debe would now be $7, Siparia to Duncan Village $8, Siparia to Chancery Lane $10, San Fernando to Duncan Village $4, San Fernando to Palmiste $5, San Fernando to Debe Market $6, Duncan Village to Debe Junction and Lalbeharry Trace $5, Duncan Village to Suchit Trace $6 and Duncan Village to Penal $7.
Sirju also said that taxi drivers plying the Penal to Siparia route would raise their fares, effective Monday, from $5 to $6. He said taxi fares between Penal and San Fernando would now be $9 and all short drops would be $5.
