An attempt to silence construction worker, Vishnu Ragoonanan, may have been behind his murder.
Ragoonanan, 45, was found naked with stab wounds to his chest and head at a Ministry of Works construction site in the forested village of Mamoral around 7.30 am yesterday morning.
He worked as a watchman and construction worker at the site where a bridge was being constructed by the Ministry of Works and the National Infrastructure Development Company.
The project was started under the last administration.
The killing sent shock waves throughout the rural community where no one could remember when last there was a murder.
Brasso police responded to a call and when they visited the scene of the murder a supervisor at the site pointed to Ragoonanan, an officer at the Brasso station told the T&T Guardian.
Ragoonanan, a father of two teenaged children, was separated from their mother and lived with relatives in Mamoral near the construction site.
His brother, Rohan, is calling for justice for his brother. He said he wanted Crime Watch host Ian Alleyne to investigate the killing.
“This is no ordinary killing. It was a cover-up. I not taking this so.”
Rohan did not elaborate further. He said Ragoonanan, although small in size, was a tough and skillful fighter and it would have taken “three, four men” to kill him.
He said when they heard the news of his murder they rushed to the site but were blocked from entering the compound by managers.
