Poultry dealer Ajodar Carasingh thought hunters were on the prowl when he heard gunshots on Saturday. However, when he investigated, he found his son’s corpse downstairs his home at 166 Cap-de-ville Main Road, Point Fortin.
Police said the victim, Randy Singh, 36, was preparing to cook for his friends when someone came into the premises with an AK-47 and fired two shots at him at point blank range. The bullets entered Singh’s chest and exited his back, killing him instantly.
Robbery has been ruled out as the motive as Singh’s Samsung phone and his wallet containing $350 were left intact. Carasingh, who operates a poultry shop at the front of his home, said he did not know why anyone would want his son dead. “He doesn’t interfere with anybody. He is a quiet boy and he was the one who always helping me in the shop,” he said.
Singh was alone when the killing took place. “His friends were expected over at 8 pm and this happened before they came,” Carasingh said. The victim’s mother, Salima said she had a heavy feeling on Saturday hours before the shooting occurred.
“I cannot explain why. All I know I was feeling heavy,” she said. She added that Singh was very devoted to his two sons Ravi, 10 and Rikesh, 6.
“The bigger son was very close to him. Ravi has been crying a lot but the younger son told me that he thinks his father will come back,” Salima said.
Singh and his wife separated 11 months ago.
Police said they were investigating several leads into the killing. Anyone with information can contact Crime Stoppers at 800-TIPS. PC Carter and officers of the Southern Division Homicide Bureau are continuing investigations.
