Finance Minister Colm Imbert is now the International Monetary Fund (IMF) representative for T&T. This post was previously held by Central Bank Governor Jwala Rambarran. Rambarran and his communications manager Charlene Ramdhanie just last week represented the country at the IMF meeting in Peru.
But, yesterday, the Sunday Guardian learned that Imbert has taken over the post. While Imbert declined to comment on the replacement, Communications Minister Maxie Cuffie confirmed that Imbert was the new IMF representative.
“Yes. It is a position normally held by the Minister of Finance,” Cuffie said.
This does not explain why Rambarran and not a designate from the Finance Ministry represented the country at the IMF annual conference in Peru.
Cuffie also noted that it was a post normally held by the Minister of Finance.
The Sunday Guardian emailed both Rambarran and Ramdhanie for comment, but there was no response up to last night.
