United National Congress candidate for Toco/Sangre Grande Brent Sancho has promised constituents a football stadium estimated to cost between $30 m to $40 m, which Cabinet has already approved.

Sancho made the announcement to a small group of party supporters at the launch of his campaign at Paul Street, Sangre Grande, on Friday.

Addressing supporters, Sancho vowed to make the constituency the envy of T&T with his plans, programmes and vision.

Speaking to reporters after his address, the Sport Minister said construction of the 4,000 seating capacity stadium would begin by month’s end and completed in 2016.

Sancho said the stadium would be equipped with shops, gymnasium, restaurants, an artificial pitch surface, and designed to hold international football matches.

He described his candidacy as the biggest football match he will ever play. Sancho urged supporters to take their positions on the field, as he faces his main opponent Glenda Jennings-Smith of the PNM.

“Let us not take this lightly. We need to be strong because the PNM propaganda machinery is busy at work. Brent Sancho is not about mudslinging and mauvelange behaviour on no platform. Brent Sancho is about taking politics and campaigning to a higher level. It would not be an easy fight though... and we must come together and bring that march to victory.”

Among those who came to support Sancho was his father, as well as his friend and footballer Stern John.
