Assistant Commissioner of Police Carlton Alleyne says he believes the two prisoners who escaped from the Carrera Island Prison are still in T&T.
Steve McGilvery and Leroy “Redo” Mohammed escaped custody on Independence Day and remain at large.
Two prison officers were suspended from duty in the wake of their escape on August 31, apparently using the cover of Independence Day fireworks to escape.
In a telephone interview yesterday, Alleyne said: “We believe that they are still in this jurisdiction. Every effort is being made to recapture them.”
Alleyne also denied the possibility that their escape had been with the assistance of a boat.
McGilvery is serving 30 years with hard labour for murder while Mohammed was sentenced to ten years for robbery and possession of firearms.
McGilvery’s earliest date of discharge is September 14, 2029, while Mohammed’s earliest date of discharge is August 16, 2018.
McGilvery had escaped custody several times before and both men were in the top security section of the prison as they were considered high risk.
Mc Gilvery has been serving a 30-year sentence for unlawful killing. He is described as having a scorpion tattoo on the right side of his neck, an eagle tattoo on his chest and upper left arm and a tattoo of the words “only God can judge me” on his stomach.
Mohammed is 34 years and has been serving a 12-year sentence for robbery with aggravation. He has a distinguishing bullet wound scar near his Adam’s apple.
Members of the public are advised that both men are considered to be armed and dangerous and should not be approached if spotted. If seen, citizens are advised to call the emergency lines E999 or 555 or to contact the nearest police station with relevant information.
