Independent Liberal Party (ILP) chairman Rekha Ramjit and member Simeon Mahabir have submitted nomination forms to vie for the post of political leader of the party. This was comfirmed yesterday by the ILP's Elections Committee. Nominations closed on Friday.
Shortly after the party’s defeat in the September 7 general elections, political leader Jack Warner announced plans to step down within 30 days and said elections will be held to elect a new leader.
All members of the ILP whose names appear on the party’s membership list will be eligible to vote in the October 10 internal election.
Persons who wish to verify that their names are on the membership list are asked to call 800-4ILP (800-4457). The details of the locations of polling stations are being finalised and will be announced shortly.
