A police constable assigned to the Southern Division attempted to walk out of the Princes Town Police Station minutes after he was arrested and brought in for possession of a stolen vehicle.
Police also found a revolver and ammunition in his car, which was being driven by another man and trailing him.
T&T Guardian was told that the officer, aged 38, was held by a party of police officers from the Princes Town Police Station acting on a tip-off.
The officer was driving a white Toyota Corolla wagon and another man, believed to be known by the officer, was driving his (the officer’s) vehicle a few metres behind him. The officers, who intercepted the constable, carried out a tracing of the wagon and found that it was stolen from the San Fernando area.
The officer and the other man were arrested and taken to the Princes Town Police Station. Sometime after he was brought into the station, the constable allegedly got up and attempted to walk out of the building, however, he was restrained.
The police constable is yet to be charged, however, investigations are continuing.
