Its been ten years since the bomb blast occurred on Frederick Street, Port-of-Spain, and no one has been arrested.

Yvonne McIvor, 76, of Arima, who lost her left leg when an explosive device went off in a dustbin in Port-of-Spain in 2005 said the incident was just as another murder, just another statistic.

In an interview McIvor said it was upsetting no one was held accountable.

“Just as the murders I seeing happening today. Families keep asking where is the redress after my accident. It was a terrible distressing thing for me and when I think of child rapists it is a sense of hopeless that nothing, nothing has improved,” she said.

McIvor said the police continued to say that crime was down

“It is in your face and it is not something people want to live with as an everyday occurrence. People losing a sense of awareness that you can just murder.

“It is another statistic to live like that. You actually living in jail now. You are afraid to open a door not knowing what to expect. Its so frightful,” she added.

McIvor, a cancer survivor for the past 11 years, said sometimes she got frustrated when she could not help herself.

“You wouldn't believe wonders he has done. When you in a situation you realise how God can give you a peace of mind,” she added.

McIvor said she was happy to be alive because the day after thea bombing was her birthday.

“I was in a coma for ten days and now when I open my eyes I thank God that is the ten years of my new life I am happy to celebrate,” she said.

McIvor said she no longer took walks because the prosthetic leg and the motorised wheelchair were not working.

“I not asking anyone again. I can't use them again. I put on a lot of weight and I get a lot of pain in my hips because all the weight is on one side,” she said.

Her left breast and lymph nodes were removed so her left side is weak, she added.

McIvor said she kept being told she had a cheque available from the Ministry of Health but it never came through.

She explained: “I applied in 2013 for the wheelchair when it stalled but they keep saying it was approved but nothing happened.

“The budget came and I got nothing. Another was made in 2014 and it was approved again and nothing happened. I called but I don't know what’s is happening. It is a runaround,

“The chair was my foot to walk up and down. All I asked them (government) for is to upkeep the maid and the wheelchair. I had to buy my own batteries for the wheelchair. It is $3,000,” she said.

Minister of the Ministry of the People and Social Development Christine Newallo-Hosein said she would be following up the complaint.

Attempts to contact Minister Fuad Khan proved futile.
