Relatives of an 18-year-old Morvant teen who is now on the run from the police after stabbing a relative to death on Tuesday afternoon, say he may have been egged on by peers to retaliate violently towards his sibling.
Speaking at the Forensic Science Centre, St James yesterday, a cousin of the men, said the teen was previously attacked by the victim but told relatives he had forgiven his attacker and there was now brotherly love between them. The relative said the attack was unprovoked as the now deceased struck while his victim was asleep.
According to police reports, the first incident happened at Second Caledonia, Morvant around 12.30 pm Tuesday. Police said Marcus Small, 25, got into a heated argument with a male relative who stabbed him in the chest. The duo were at the time at a family gathering when the stabbing took place. Small was taken to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex (EWMSC) where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
“He (the suspect) was a real church boy, but like they get away. He had the knife in his hand whole morning and was walking around saying what he go do and what he go do. He was ranting and raving with the knife whole morning, but like he get chain up by fellas in the area who tell him he wouldn’t do anything” the woman said.
Relatives said the home the two shared seemed to be haunted as there is always “some kinda bacchanal” at the house which forced another relative to flee.
Another relative said the teen is ready and willing to surrender but is fearful of being treated badly once in police custody. The teen, who has been in communication with the family, said he plans to surrender early next week. Relatives assured that the teen is not planning to harm himself and recently became a father.
