Police are awaiting autopsy results done on the body of 74-year-old Zorida Enayat Ali to determine whether she was sexually assaulted by her attackers.
Ali, who sold plants at her home at Farnum Village, Guaracara, was discovered with her head bashed on on Thursday evening.
According to reports, Ali’s attacker broke through her front door and may have dragged her out to the back of the house where she was struck in the head with a brick.
When Gasparillo police and Region II Homicide responded to reports of her death, they found her lying nude in a drain at the back of her house with the brick on her chest.
Relatives said Ali stayed with her daughter in Debe and would sometimes go home for a few days.
When they dropped her off on Tuesday, she had $1,000 in her purse but when they tried contacting her on Thursday, there was no response so they asked a neighbour to check on her.
The neighbour jumped the gate and found her dead. When relatives arrived, the money was missing from her purse and the house ransacked.
The back door and kitchen window were also partially burnt.
Police searched for possible suspects.
However, no one was held and there is no motive for the killing so far.
Visiting the house yesterday, Couva/Tabaquite/Talparo Regional Corporation chairman, Henry Awong said he was shocked to learn of Ali’s death.
Awong said it was just last Tuesday he saw Ali during a walkabout of his electoral district, when they had a conversation.
“She was standing in her gap and I walked up to her. She told me she has been a supporter all her life since the days of the ULF.
“I was so shocked to hear that she was murdered last night so I passed to check on the family,” Awong said.
Over the last couple years, there were minor house break-ins but he said there were no murders. “Guaracara is a relatively peaceful area,” he added.
