Police are investigating two murders in St Joseph and St Augustine which occurred between Saturday night and yesterday which pushed the murder toll for the year to 403. In the latest incident, 33-year-old Clint Ellis, of St John’s Road, St Augustine, was shot dead in front of his home yesterday.

Police said around 4.30 pm, Ellis was washing his black Nissan B-14 and liming with relatives in front of their home, when they were approached by two strangers.

The men drew firearms and began firing in the air. As Ellis’ relatives ran to safety, the two men surrounded Ellis and shot him several times, before running away.

Relatives took Ellis to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex, Mt Hope, where he was pronounced dead on arrival. Investigators said that Ellis was a suspect in several crimes that recently occurred in the Northern Division but they did not have enough evidence to charge him with any offence.

Relatives were able to give police a description of Ellis’ attackers but no suspects were arrested up to late yesterday. ASP Khanhai, Insp Vetus Hernandez and Sgt Rene Katwaroo of the St Joseph Police Station visited the scene.

Meanwhile, police are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying a man, whose bullet-riddled body was found in a garden in Maracas/St Joseph yesterday. According to reports, the discovery was made around 6 am by a farmer as he went to tend to his crops off Maracas Royal Road in Maracas/St Joseph.

Police said the farmer found the victim lying face down between a row of crops. The victim had gunshot wound to his head, police said. Investigators believe that he was killed at the location as spent shells were found next to his body.

The victim’s body was taken to the Forensic Science Centre, St James, where a post mortem will be performed this week as soon as the body is identified.

Anyone with information which may assist police in identifying the victim and solving his murder are asked to asked to contact the Maracas/St Joseph Police Post at 663-1264 or the St Joseph Police Station at 662-4038.
