A St Joseph man was shot dead in Barataria on Tuesday night while his female companion, who was also shot, survived the gun attack.
According to police reports, Renaldo Yeates, 28, of Caiman Road, St Joseph, was standing by his car at Sixth Avenue, Barataria, around 8 pm Tuesday with 18-year-old Denecia Matamoro, when a man dressed in dark clothing, passed by and opened fire on the duo.
Police said both were shot in the head and the gunman escaped.
Yeates' lifeless body was found in the trunk of the car while Matamoro was found near the vehicle bleeding from her injuries. She was taken to the Port-of-Spain General Hospital where she was warded.
Police said Matamoro, who also lives in St Joseph, was grazed on the head and her injuries have not been deemed life threatening.
Yeates' killing have taken the murder toll to 373 for the year, 18 more than the corresponding period last year.
Officers of the Homicide Bureau Region 11 are continuing investigations.
