Police have described the shooting death of a Tobago man as a hit and may have been linked to an outstanding debt.
Investigators said Zaki Lorde, 30, of Lambeau, was shot in the head and shoulder.
The autopsy was conducted by pathologist Dr Eslyn Mc Donald–Burris yesterday at the Scarborough Hospital mortuary. His body was identified by his parents Hubert Lorde and Claudia Phillips.
Speaking to the T&T Guardian at the hospital following the autopsy, Zaki’s father said identifying his son’s body was the hardest thing he had to do in his life.
Phillips said her son looked like he was asleep.
“It took some courage to do that. I saw Zaki, he looked so normal to me just as if he was sleeping. The only difference was his eyes, the blank stare he gave,” she added.
Lorde was killed last Friday around 10 pm while sitting outside the Live Wire Pub in Lambeau, mere metres from his home.
Police said two gunmen walked up to him and fired two shots, killing him instantly.
Eyewitnesses say the shooters calmly walked away from the scene.
This brings Tobago’s murder toll to two for the year. Tobago Homicide Bureau is continuing investigations.
