Relatives of Adelle Gilbert yesterday distanced themselves from a Facebook video by a man who claimed to be a relative making seemingly racial and threatening remarks. Gilbert’s sister, Kyra, said they had never seen the man before the video and they had no idea what he was speaking about.
“I don’t know anything about that. We don’t know who he saw. We don’t know who the person is. We have never seen him before. We don’t know what he is talking about,” said Kyra.
In the video, the man said among other things, that the officer touched the wrong family.
“We don’t need guns and thing, we might need guns to protect us from robbers, but we filthy rich and that police who shoot my family all hell coming down on he,” he said. He went on to offer $200,000 for the name and a clear photo of the officer’s face photo showing the officer’s face.
When contacted former UNC minister Roodal Moonilal said: “I find it remarkable that the media will run with such a repulsive and completely illiterate statement. I will not run with that type of ranting society is much more mature today to accept diversity and not to hide criminality behind paranoia.
“Given the nature of the mismanagement of our diversity by the current administration ranting like these might happen more regular.”
The band which the man referred to was a symbolic ritual of a blessing in the Hindu faith. It is put on the hand of either a man or a woman who participates pooja, the T&T Guardian was told.
