A day before he was killed in his house, Kyle Charles Gonzales hugged his family and told them how much he loved them. Gonzales, of La Lune Village, Moruga, would have celebrated his 30th birthday in November if he was given a chance to live.

Police said around 9 pm on Saturday he was at home when the killers began firing on him at point-blank range. Neighbours reported hearing four loud explosions. When police investigated, they saw him lying on the floor close to the front door, bleeding from gunshots wounds to the head and chest.

Gonzales was unemployed. His father, Russel Gonzales, said he was never in trouble with the law. “He never used to trouble anybody. All he did was take his little smoke. We really do not know why this happened,” Russel said. He added that three months ago, he built a house for Gonzales so he could live happy.

Grandfather Claudius Jackson said it appeared that the killers were waiting for Gonzales. “It look like he was going to bathe when they shot him,” Jackson added. Gonzales’s sisters Mary, 28 and Krysta, 26,  said their brother was unusually quiet on Friday but he did not tell anybody what was worrying him.

“The whole day something was bothering him. He loved life and was always fun to be around,” Krysta said. She added that Gonzales hugged up his brother and told him that he loved him. “I don’t know what was worrying him. he was no saint but he changed his life around after Easter when he had an incident with some Venezuelans,” Krysta recalled.

Mary said Gonzales had a five-year-old daughter. An autopsy will be done today at the Forensic Science Centre. Moruga police were up to late yesterday continuing investigations.
