Used car dealer Sheron Sukhdeo has been freed of two domestic violence charges after his estranged wife yesterday said she no longer wished to pursue the case against him.
Sukhdeo’s wife, Rachael, was present in the Chaguanas Magistrates’ Court yesterday as her husband reappeared before Magistrate Joanne Connor for assaulting her on two occasions earlier this year.
After the case was called the 26-year-old woman asked to address the magistrate and informed the court that she and her husband had resolved their issues and that she no longer wished for the case to continue.
Connor then discharged Sukhdeo, the owner of Sheron’s Auto, as the case could not be prosecuted without Rachael’s evidence.
The couple’s domestic dispute leaked into the public domain in February after Rachael used her husband’s company Facebook page to post photographs of injuries and claimed that her reports to police in the past had been ignored.
Sukhdeo was eventually arrested, charged and placed on $85,000 bail. As part of the conditions of his bail, Sukhdeo was ordered to move out of the family home he shared with her and their two children, in Chaguanas, and to refrain from making contact with her.
Even before the announcement in court yesterday, there was speculation on social media over the couple as Sukhdeo recently posted several photographs of his wife and himself on his Instagram page including one of her exposing what appears to be a recent tattoo on her chest bearing his name.
