How Lisa Matagoolam met her death could not be determined yesterday because of her body’s advanced state of decomposition.
Matagoolam’s decomposing body was found at the bottom of a 20-foot precipice in Brasso on Thursday.
The mother of one had been missing for three days.
An autopsy was done by pathologist Dr Estlyn Mc Donald-Burris at the Forensic Science Centre in Port-of-Spain, but the cause of death could not be determined. As a result samples were taken for further testing.
Matagoolam, a sales clerk at Jessie’s Fashion in Chaguanas, left her West Macaulay Park, California, Couva, home on Sunday to spend the night at her mother’s Milton Road, Couva, home.
The following morning her boyfriend picked her up to drop her to work, but she never got there. In the missing person’s report filed by Matagoolam’s sister Patricia Ali, she told police the boyfriend dropped her off in Chaguanas.
Investigators said the suspect confessed to killing the woman after officers went to his home. Her body was found with her hands bound. The suspect led police to the area along the main road after 3 pm on Thursday where he showed them where he had dumped her body.
Police believe her death was linked to a love triangle.
Up to late yesterday, the 41-year-old suspect was still in police custody.
