Hours after cleaning dirty water and slush from their homes, Chester Street, Debe residents watched helplessly as their homes were inundated with flood waters for the second consecutive day.
“We are fed up of it. We are just fed up,” said Vidiawatie Sieunarine, 59, who again appealed for help.
Sieunarine, who lives with her husband Doonath, 59, and Adesh, 35, said while the flooding was not as bad as Saturday, water and slush still flowed into her living room, garage and parlour.
The residents said they have been experiencing flooding every time it rained because the drains were clogged due to land development in the area.
Their MP Roodal Moonilal, representative for Oropouche East, is aware of the situation and has scheduled another meeting with the land developers on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, Sieunarine and other residents continue to be adversely affected by floods every time it rains. “The water gone down. Right now we washing down the road and inside the house. It still have water in the living room, but it not as bad as yesterday.
“Imagine we finish cleaning up around 11 am. Whole night we clean and then we have to come back and clean again. I soak down in the rain. This flooding thing so disgusting. We fed up of it. I hope they do something.
“We put everything high, but oh God it frustrating. This taking all we strength. I so tired. My son just take out 150 buckets of slush in the back of the house. Every time we have to move everything and when it stop back, it back, is every day and every week we going through this.”
Sieunarine asked if the authorities would give her a grant to assist her in elevating her house and parlour so they would not get flooded out every time it rained.
Meera Boodhai, 67, said once the rain falls they will experience flooding until a drain is built for the water to flow.
Boodhai, who uses a prosthetic leg, said residents were assisting her clean up. “Right around my house have flood right now. But if I go to wash that yard and road everytime the rain fall and it flood, the leg will get damage and it expensive you know.”
One resident has already moved out because of the constant flooding.
The residents said they have not visited by anyone from the Penal Debe Regional Corporation or any Government officials.
