A Laventille man who relatives said had been threatened repeatedly was called out of his home and shot dead in his yard yesterday afternoon.

Kenwyn “Mikey” Prescod, 27, was murdered as he was about to leave his home at Trou Macaque to work his PH taxi. According to police reports, around 12.15 pm a white Toyota Corolla pulled up outside Prescod’s home and a man called out to him.

As he went outside he was shot several times and collapsed in the yard. The gunman returned to the car and drove off.

This was the second time Prescod was shot in the area in which he grew up. Last year he was shot at in Mango Alley, a short distance away from where he lived, relatives said.

Police said they had no motive for his killing as he was not known to be involved in any criminal activity. Police added that Prescod had made reports that his life was threatened soon after the first shooting.

Speaking at the scene of the murder yesterday, Prescod’s aunt, Jenifer Lessey, said she had a premunition someone in the family was going to die but she did not expect it would be Prescod.

“I had a dream that one of my teeth was coming out. Anytime I dream that or cake somebody in the family does die. I know he didn’t deserve this but is long time they blaming him for another murder, saying he transport the killer,” Lessey said.

Her daughter, Kriston, said her cousin was wrongfully accused, wrongfully targeted and wrongfully killed. She added that Prescod “doh be on nobody” as he always kept to himself.

The younger Lessey added: “He was home just before he get kill and was talking about how he was feeling hurt how he get shoot the last time because he say he know who it was and that hurt him.

“Last time they shoot him because they would ask to go certain places and he would say no and they didn’t like that.”

The older Lessey said she was leaving everything up to God.

Prescod was accused of facilitating the death of 20-year-old national reserve cricketer and aspiring disc jockey Lorenzo John. John, of Mango Alley, Trou Macaque, was shot dead on February 27 while working in Port-of-Spain.

According to police, John, a cook at Kentucky Fried Chicken, Independence Square, was loading a truck with others around 9.30 pm when a car pulled up behind him and a gunman began shooting, hitting John three times.

The shooter ran towards George Street and escaped while the driver of the car also got away. It was alleged that Prescod was the driver.

He was never held or questioned in relation to that murder but relatives believe he was targeted because he happened to be in the area working his PH taxi at the time of the killing.
