Minister of Works Dr Surujrattan Rambachan says the PNM is using the same “old brigade” to win the upcoming general election.

He was speaking at the opening of the St Joseph bridge yesterday along the Eastern Main Road in St Joseph.

“Is the same old brigade and the country should expect the same consequences. They are the ones running the show. It is the same old ones like Camille Robinson-Regis and the others. Same old brigade.”

Speaking about the new candidates who are physically attractive, he said: “They are only posters. They are just posters. But can they perform?”

Referring to comments made by Winston “Gypsy” Peters after he resigned from Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar’s Cabinet, he said: “I think everyone makes their own choice and it was his own choice of consequences and Peters is doing what the considers to be in his best interest.”

He said Peters sat next to him in Parliament and was his former colleague.

“He is not only making allegations but the country do not believe.

She (PM) is 10 points clear ahead in every poll done in the country. I think we will win the elections,” he said.

Rambachan said families are doing what is in their best interest for their families and the government is doing their best despite failing oil prices.

“I wonder what he (Peters) would have done if he was given the seat?” he asked.

Rambachan said he did not have a problem with the contractor who endured the cost after allegations were made of “bad” cement used to build the bridge.

He said the contractor endured all the costs and the bridge did not cost more nor did it take more time to build.

Rambachan said Local Government built 60 bridges in one-year-and-a-half and the St Joseph bridge was built by KJS Enterprises at the cost of $15 million.
