Four years after he got into an altercation with Estate Police officers at the Airports Authority over the parking of his vehicle in a restricted area, Kwame Trim was found guilty and fined of $10,700, earlier this week.
In default of the fine, Trim of Prizgar Road, San Juan, will serve two months hard labour. Trim, who appeared before Arima Court Magistrate Debby-Ann Bassaw, had originally pleaded not guilty to eight charges arising out of the incident on July 15, 2012.
However, a full trial, which began in March 2015, ended on July 7, 2016, with Magistrate Bassaw finding him guilty on all eight counts. Special prosecutor, Sean Cazabon appeared on behalf of the State, while attorneys Reynold Waldropt and Jeron Joseph appeared on behalf of Trim.
According to the evidence presented in court, around 6.45 am on July 15, 2012, Trim parked his vehicle in a restricted area at the Piarco International Airport. He refused to remove the vehicle when requested to do so.
He got into an altercation with the officers, following which he was slapped with eight charges including, assault on Airports Authority Estate Police Officers Braithwaite and Perkins in the execution of their duties, resisting officers in the execution of duties, obscene language, breach of a no parking sign, as well as failing to produce a driving permit and insurance.
