A male has topped the SEA examination in Tobago.
Shae Jaheem Roman, 12, of the Scarborough Methodist School, who scored 239.655 points, told the media he was shocked over his achievement but knew he worked very hard
“I feel proud and I’m very shocked. Every night I had to study very hard,” the shy student said.
His mother, Heatherlyn Burnett, said she was overwhelmed by the situation, but was confident her son would have done well.
“I knew he could have done it, with God’s grace all things are possible,” Burnett said.
Burnett said she was planning something big to celebrate her son’s achievement, but Shae said all he wanted was for his mom to get some much needed rest and relaxation for all the years she would have assisted him with his school work.
Eleven-year-old Gabrielle Murray, also from the Scarborough Methodist School, placed second while third place went to Rianna Caitlyn Ross of the Scarborough RC School. The top three students all passed for their first choice, Bishop’s High School.
Seven students from the Scarborough Methodist School placed in the top 20 on the island, the highest number of students from one school to achieve such a feat.
Some 863 students sat the exam in Tobago this year and no student will have to resit it.
