In a span of just eight days, there have been several shooting incidents recorded in Brickfield, Carapichaima.
The latest came on Sunday, this time allegedly involving an off-duty police officer whose gun went off during a family argument, injuring two people.
According to a police report, at about 6 pm several family members who had earlier attended a funeral, went to the Brickfield Recreation Club to have some drinks. An argument subsequently started among two factions of relatives.
Randy Wilson and Indar Ruben were subsequently shot and wounded as the argument intensified.
During a visit to the area yesterday, the T&T Guardian met reluctance from villagers to recall what occurred.
“What we hearing is that the police officer, who is a family member, was there liming with everyone. He had his gun on him when the argument broke out,” he said.
Another villager, who also wished not to be identified, said one of the men who was shot and injured attempted to quell the argument and during that time they heard gunshots and noticed one of the men bleeding from the knee.
“I heard people saying that the police officer gun went off by accident but is not one person got shot, it’s two. I believe that they trying to cover it up but the police need to investigate this properly and fairly,” the villager said.
Last week Monday, three residents were hospitalised at the San Fernando General Hospital (SFGH) after they were shot by a gunman who disrupted their birthday lime near the Brickfield Recreation Club. They were identified as Robertha Modeste, 36, her cousin Winsley Modeste, 28, and an 11-year-old girl.
Three days before that, on June 25, Kendel Boyce, 32, was killed while Derron Richards, Andrew Anderson and Antonio Anderson were shot by a gunman as they were liming at a birthday party at a house along Wyaby Road, Carapichaima.
