The teenaged woman, accused of stabbing to death a girl two years younger than her, will re-appear in court today after spending one night in jail has been charged with manslaughter.
Kelly Ann Lewis, 18, who is represented by Christine Sahadeo was charged yesterday afternoon with manslaughter and taken to the Port-of-Spain Magistrates’ Court around 3.15 pm.
By 3.30 pm Lewis was ordered by a Justice of the Peace to return to court today as there were no magistrates available to hear the case. Court officially closes at 4 pm daily.
Lewis’ mother, Sabrina Boodram, was seen crying outside the court house after she was denied entry due to her attire. Lewis surrendered to police on August 18.
Lewis is accused of killing Jernice Francis on August 12.
Francis, who was supposed to enter Fourth Form at the opening of the school term on September 8, was buried on August 15 following a ceremony at the Church on the Rock Open Bible Church, Lady Young Road, Morvant.
