Southern Division police are searching for a third man in connection with a robbery at a bar in Duncan Village, San Fernando, after one of three bandits died following a shootout with officers. The second man remained hospitalised last evening after being shot by a security guard at the bar.

Police said Veron Maynard, 29, and another man tried to rob the It’s Nothing Sports Bar along Papourie Road, Duncan Village, last Friday. It was the second time Maynard and his cohorts had targeted the bar, as they made off with $10,000 in cash the week before.

During the robbery, an armed security guard shot one of the bandits in the leg but Maynard, of Buen Intento, Princes Town, escaped.

A search was launched and Princes Town CID officers got information that Maynard was seen walking along the Tasker Road leading into Princes Town with another man.

The officers later approached the men and ordered them to stop but Maynard pulled out a firearm and shot at the officers. Officers fired back and Maynard was shot once in the leg and collapsed. His accomplice, who police suspect may have been involved in a string of robberies with Maynard, escaped. The firearm and six rounds of ammunition were retrieved from the scene.

Maynard was taken to the San Fernando General Hospital for treatment but he died on Saturday morning.

Police said he had a long list of convictions and pending matters for robbery, housebreaking and larceny, larceny of a motor vehicle and marijuana possession. He was released from prison sometime late last year after serving a three-year sentence for robbery.
